Radiation Safety

Description: This course satisfies functional training requirements for Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs) as prescribed by DoDI 5160.68, AR 385-10, and DA PAM 385-64. Course content includes a comprehensive review of regulations governing the use, storage, transport, and disposal of radioactive materials and the methods used to limit and document exposures to radiation hazards. This course provides training in the technical application of basic nuclear physics, ionizing radiation, units of measure, detection, and measurement, radiation dosimetry, radiation accidents and incidents, and radioactive waste disposal.
Audience: This course satisfies functional training requirements for Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), safety professionals with radiation safety responsibilities, and additional personnel who require basic understanding of the Army Radiation Safety Program as prescribed by DoDI 5160.68, AR 385-10, and DA PAM 385-64. Course content includes a comprehensive review of regulations governing the use, storage, transport, and disposal of radioactive materials and the methods used to limit and document exposures to radiation hazards. This course provides training in the technical application of basic nuclear physics, ionizing radiation, units of measure, detection, and measurement, radiation dosimetry, radiation accidents and incidents, and radioactive waste disposal.
Length: Approximately 20 hours (self-paced learning).
Special Information: Refresher training may be completed annually. This course is a web-based (online) course hosted on the Army Training Information System (ATIS). Students must have web access and a CAC card. Students must register through ATRRS for course credit. A high-speed Internet connection is recommended to complete the course.
