Description: This course satisfies mandatory certification training requirements for Navy/Marine Corps entry level personnel who handle energetic material/ordnance as prescribed by DoDI 5160.68 and NAVSEA OP 5, Volume 1. This course provides a comprehensive review of Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Navy (DoN) regulations governing ammunition and explosives hazards and explosives safety principles and practices, as well as technical training in the application of storage compatibility, explosives classification, explosives safety quantity distance, hazard control, explosives facilities, transportation, and handling operations, and an overview of the QUAL/CERT program.

Audience: Navy/Marine Corps entry level personnel who handle energetic material/ordnance at the grade level of E-3 and above or O-1 to O-3, civilians WG-05 and above or GS-05-GS-11, and additional personnel whose evolutions or tasks involve explosive materials as prescribed by Appendix D of NAVSEA OP 5, Volume 1.

Length: Approximately 16 hours (self-paced learning)

Special Information: This course is considered mandatory certification training for Navy/Marine Corps entry level personnel who handle energetic material/ordnance and additional personnel whose duties involve explosives materials as prescribed by NAVSEA OP 5, Volume 1, Appendix D. Certification for this course is one-time only; however, local activities may require completion of this course as refresher training for personnel who have been away from ordnance handling duties for a year or more. This course is a web-based (online) course. Students must have web access, a CAC card, and an Navy E-Learning (NEL) account. Students must register through NEL for course credit. A high-speed Internet connection is recommended to complete the course. This course is not available to International Military Students.
